After high school, I continued working in the restaurant field in many capacities. In the 80's, I managed a local restaurant where I met my ex-wife. We had a beautiful daughter in 1985. We dissolved our marriage the following year.
I went back to Fresno City College and then transferred to Chico State where I was one of those 10 year Seniors. While I was going to City and Chico State, I continued working in the restaurant\bar field to put myself through school and to support my daughter. I worked as a food server at Reuben's restaurant and also bartended at Sweet Georgia Browns here in Fresno, both long gone.
After finishing Chico State, I had always planned on moving back to Fresno, but fell in love with the City of Chico and the surrounding area. I worked in Chico as a Network Administrator for 12 years.
My father passed away a few years ago and decided to move back to Fresno 2 years ago to be closer to my mother, daughter, and other family members. I looked on line at the job market for the Fresno area and I saw a very interesting one as a Network Administration Teacher at a local Vocational College. I decided to send in my resume and drove to Fresno for the interview. I was chosen for the position and had to start teaching two days later. I was working in Fresno during the week and driving back and forth to Chico on the weekends, moving everything.
I met my girlfriend with in a month of moving back to Fresno and we have been together ever since. We moved into the same house I grew up in, on Roberts Ave, when my mother decided to get a smaller place in Clovis.
One of my proudest moments was watching my daughter graduate from Fresno State with her degree in Psychology.
I will be posting some pictures as soon as I can dig out some of the old high school pictures.
I am looking forward to maybe attending the 30 year reunion. If you have any information on who to contact for me to get more information about it, please drop me a note.
I lost two great friends while in High School, Coach Dar Garabedian and my best friend, Mark Miller. I miss them both.
The most memorable day of high school was not a very good day for me and I am assuming for many others.
It was the day of our Winter Sports Banquet. Rocky Jones came up to me first thing in the morning and asked me if we should get Coach Dar Garabedian some flowers. I told him no, we already bought him a plaque to give him at the banquet. He then proceeded to tell me Coach Garabedian had passed away.
Coach Garabedian was more than just my coach; he was my friend and mentor. He had a major impact on my life.
I have very fond memories of talking with him outside of the gym, him puffing on his cigarette. I was so tired of cutting weight for wrestling, but he was always there to encourage me and to support me either way. He would tell me that I didn't have to cut weight, I could always wrestle in a heavier weight class, but he would remind me I chose to wrestle at the 167 weight class for a reason and not to give up on my decision.
Because of his encouragement, I never did give up and I always made weight. Because I was able to make weight and make my goals then, I have always known that I can achieve any goals I set for myself. All because of those talks with my friend, Coach Garabedian. I think of him often.
